2011 PDC World Dart Championships
It’s time again for the heavyweights of the darting arena to meet face-to-face in the much anticipated PDC World Darts Championships held at London’s Alexandra Palace. With £1,000,000 in prize money and a chance to wrap up 2011 as a champion, this year’s competition is sure to yield some interesting darts betting dynamics.
Adrian Lewis currently holds the title of champion and will be looking to keep it that way. That’s not just a pipe dream – Lewis’ spectacular form of late, with appearances in the Premier League final and World Matchplay semis, means he is definitely one of the top five favorites. Why not the favorite? Well, that’s always going to be a problem with Phil Taylor around.
The Power has just been so dominant throughout the year, adding the 2011 World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, and the Grand Slam of Darts titles to his already stupefying list of accolades. He’ll be hungry to be become world champ, and he’ll be the man to stop at the Ally Pally. The question is, by whom?
Eric Bristow, former world champion himself, reckons that James Wade is the thrower to look out for when it comes to derailing Taylor. Wade is without doubt an extremely talented darts player, but his sometimes erratic play and inconsistent results make him a shaky pick this time around.
Gary Anderson is occupying second spot after Taylor in the odds table. The Scotsman has already proven his skills this year, taking the 2011 Premier League. As runner-up in this event the last time, he seems like a logical pick, but his devastating defeat to Phil Taylor in the Grand Slam of Darts, and his unreliable performance in general, should be taken into account before backing him with your bet.
Another big name that will probably prove to be a popular darts betting pick is Raymond van Barneveld. The man from Holland won the Championship in 2007, but it’s beginning to feel that his hay-days are slowly coming to an end. His draw lines him up with Taylor in the third round, and since it’s not likely that he’ll be able to overcome the Power, Barney’s World Darts Championship campaign will probably end there.
